Mindsets
Seek Empathy
Understanding what others see, feel, and experience helps create the human bonds that make life worth living.
Collaborate Radically
All of us are smarter than any of us.
Take Action
There are seven days in a week and someday isn’t one of them.
Expand Creative Confidence
Being confident in your creative ability is in the same league with literacy
Adhere to the Process
Innovation is not an event, it is a process.
Embrace Ambiguity
When nothing is sure, everything is possible.
Explore Wild Ideas
The people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world are the ones that do.
Iterate to Improve Ideas
An iterative approach affords us to gain validation along the way... because we are looking to find solutions for the people we are designing for.
Learn From Failure
If you are not prepared to be wrong, you’ll never come up with anything original.
Commit to Complete the Task
Innovation is never achieved when good ideas fall short of being implemented.

Design Thinking increases achievement and engagement by challenging students with complex real world problems and encouraging them to take risks. It provides a framework that students will use to arrive at innovative solutions to problems in our school and our local communities. Lab Guides will help students understand and be mindful of the Design Thinking process. They are the operational leaders of the Lab space and its resources, serving to support the needs of the process and sustain ongoing development of learning programs and community partnerships.
Lab Guides focus on enhancing relationships and strengthening collaboration skills. They seek a meaningful understanding of students to identify and provide feedback and opportunities that will help students deepen their individual Design Thinking Mindsets. They are learning partners, invested deeply in their own learning along with students. They see their work with students as rich experiences that feed their growth and innovates their role.
The Island Innovations Lab is being launched to place students in the driver's seat when it comes to learning. The role of our guides is to lay pavement and present the right road signs to help navigate learning that is of intrinsic interest to our students. They will also be there when a tow-truck is needed or to repair and ready engines that misfire (spark).
